Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)

Enterprise Resource Planning or ERP is the ability to deliver an integrated suite of business applications. Most ERP applications share a common process and data model that cover operational processes from end-to-end. Such processes are found in finance, HR, distribution, manufacturing, service and the supply chain.

ERP applications automate and support a large number of operational and administrative processes across several industries that include line of business, customer-facing, administrative, and asset management. ERP implementation can be complex and expensive endeavors, some organizations have difficulty justifying the business benefits.

Look for business benefits in four areas when evaluating ERPs:

  1. A place to cultivate new business innovation
  2. A platform for business process efficiency
  3. A vehicle to standardize your process
  4. A savings mechanism for IT solutions

Many organizations tend to focus on the last two areas because they are more easy to quantify, but the first two points are usually the most high impact for organizations looking to adopt an ERP system.
